Jonathan Ellson (b. 1980) is a UK-based composer of contemporary orchestral, choral and chamber music. He has a particular interest in the ability of music to evoke description and imagery. His ongoing "Sky Pictures" project is a complete set of 88 pieces of orchestral music, each based on a separate offical IAU constellation of the night sky. Much of his music takes as its inspiration some extra-musical starting point, be it an image, a poem, a novel or even just a particular emotion.
A graduate of Coventry University, he works as a freelance musician, composing both to commission and for his own enjoyment, prividing private tuition from his Northamptonshire home, and undertaking musical direction, both of amateur choral groups and for the amateur stage.
He is a member of the British Musicians' Union and is always keen to hear from anyone looking to perform a work, or even to commission a new piece.
Sheet music is available for purchase through Score Exchange, and audio recordings from Bandcamp
